Soul Track Mind has an original sound that blends soul, funk, and rock with elements of R&B, blues, and jazz, and a message of inspiration in the relentless pursuit of dreams. The project began in 2008 when frontman Donovan Keith moved from Indiana to Austin, Texas, intent on starting a band rooted in the soul music he grew up listening to. Having never even been in a band, let alone led one, Donovan assembled STM's initial lineup and logged an 18-month weekly residency at a down-home eastside juke joint before branching out to venues throughout Central Texas and the U.S. Over time, STM developed the one-of-a-kind, dance-infused stage show now loved by fans and acknowledged by reviewers across the country. Performer Magazine asserted, “Aside from showcasing an impressive vocal range and blues-soaked sound, Keith can engage an audience with his unbridled enthusiasm and dance moves.” The seven-piece band released their debut album, Ghost of Soul, in 2010, which Austin360 said “hints at the band’s ample promise and immense musical chops.” Their self-titled second album earned them the summer 2013 cover of Texas Music Magazine and prompted the Huffington Post to declare Soul Track Mind “a cultural exclamation point about American music.” The band's third album, Unbreakable (2014), produced by C.J. Eiriksson (U2, Phish), is an evolution and expansion of STM's sound far beyond what the band has done in the past. The Austin Chronicle proclaimed it “a hot, horn-fed, electric guitar-etched platter of hard modern R&B.” Giving clear evidence of their significant growth as musicians and songwriters, Unbreakable demonstrates more emphatically than ever what they're truly capable of. Beyond the musical content, this album is close to Donovan's heart because it speaks his truth: No matter who doubts you or how low or lonely you get, constant work and belief in yourself will eventually pay off.
