Keith Magel is hereafter to be known as the Texas Piano Man. We’ll call him TPM so I can type faster. TPM’s 2003 CD is “TEXASPIANOMAN.COM” (and that’s also his website, duh). How’s the music? It’s fantastic. To use some other coined phrases, Slim Pickens would have called it ‘splendifferous’ and Will Farrell might call it ‘scrumtrulescent.’ Magel pens or co-writes all but one cut of this ten-track treasure that includes hilarious glimpses of life like “No Pun Intended” and the we-all-can-relate roadside conversation with a cop, “D.I.W.” (worth the price of the entire disc) TPM has a serious song on the album, too. I’m not sure which one it is, so you’ll have to get the CD. From the opening cut “Boogie Man,” TPM takes you on a boogie-woogie honky-tonkin’ piano frenzy that also showcases one fabulous guitar performance after another from Dub Robinson. The disc is well produced, and TPM has assembled a stellar cast for this release. Some of my favorite CDs are going to feel jealous as this disc takes up residence on the ‘fave’ shelf. This is a must-buy for fans who love great music and a good laugh. Award worthy at every level, get your copy today.
